Free College Football Picks

9/20/03

We've cussed and discussed this weeks picks, following are our highest rated College & NFL picks

A Rated Picks:

  • Bowling Green (+) - Won - The Falcons are off a bye and traveling to intra-state national champions OSU. The buckeyes are off a triple overtime squeeker against NC State and may not have their starting QB for this contest - but what intrigues us more is they will very likely be without starting center Alex Stepanovich.  We mentioned this play in our Sunday late night "Early Bird" looks and are going with it as an A rated College pick.  The Falcons are a feisty team and getting two TDs off a bye is solid value in this spot.  Look for Bowling Green to pull out all the stops and play for the win.

B Rated Picks

  • @SJSU (+)  (Thur) - Loss - The Spartans have played a tough slate to date. This should be a hard fought tightly contested game, but in the end San Jose will want it more, and they have the speed at wideout to make some big plays.

  • Hawaii  (Friday) - Loss - We like the Rainbows on the ML.  Hawaii is the better team and we're getting solid line value due to last weeks skewed results.  UNLV played well at Wisky, but they got some breaks too.  At USC Hawaii played better than the final score would indicate.  This is a late play addition that's going up just 15 minutes before kick-off. (verified at trackpicks.com)

  • @ Cincinnati - Loss - The Bearcats have been kind to us,  we think the Temple Owls will find it hard going against this very fast Bearcat defense

  • West Virginia (+)  - downgraded to an "also like rated play" Friday night - The Mountaineers can run the ball. Terrapins aren't what they were two years ago, and their line-backing unit has taken a step back.

  • @Toledo (+) - Won -  This is a big game for the Rockets. They have an improved defense and may catch the Panthers playing their first road game on an off-surface in a look ahead spot with Texas A&M on deck. If Panthers starting center Justin Belarski is out for this game this one get's upgraded to an "A" play.

  • Northern Illinois (+) - Won - The scrappy Huskies catch Alabama in a nice spot. Bama is off an emotional loss to Oklahoma and has Arkansas on deck. The leading tackler and team leader for Alabama, Brooks Daniel,  has walked off the football team....

  • Arkansas State - Loss - Reeling Tulsa is without three starting players for this contest. We'll lay the FG with the scrappy Indians to control this game on the ground.

2003 NFL Football Picks

9/20/03

B Rated Picks:

  • @ New England - - Won - The Jets are just plain banged up. They lost 4 key players in free agency, they lost their starting QB in pre-season, and they lost starting CB Donnie Abraham last week.  We know the Pats are without LB Rosevelt Colvin - doesn't matter - we'll lay the points and like them to take care of business here and win at home

  • @ Seattle - Loss - The Seahawks have the secondary to match-up mano-a-mano on the Rams receivers.  Free agent addition MLB is very quick and savvy manning the middle and matches up as well as anybody can to Marshall Faulk. On the other side of the ball the Rams do not have an answer to the potent 3-wide the Seahawks can put on the field.  This is a pivotal division game for the Seahawks and in the end the coaching of Mike Holmgren is superior to the questionable play calling of Mike Martz

  • UNDER - Won - Baltimore vs San Diego - The Chargers are without their No. 2 and 3 receivers - and may be without David Boston as well, even if Boston plays he hasn't logged the practice time with Brees and doesn't have a threat on the other side to be a significant factor. That means a lot of LaDanian Tomlinson against one of the better defenses in the league. On the other side Baltimore doesn't have a QB and will hand off to North/South runner Jamal Lewis another 30 times this week.  The clock stops on an incomplete pass, but not on a running play (unless it goes out of bounds).  Look for the clock to run and this to be a short game;  with FGs put on the board in place of TDs.

  • Green Bay - Loss - Arizona is a joke.  The owner has no intentions of attempting to field a winning program.  Fundamentally the Cards are extremely vulnerable in the secondary - with top CB Duane Starks out on IR for the season, and no pass rush to speak of.  Which leaves Arizona wide open to the potent over the top pass attack of the Pack.  GB is vulnerable to strong rushing teams - but the Cards cannot be confused with having a rush attack.

  • Tampa Bay - Won - HC Jon Gruden is a master comeback coach, seldom dropping two division games in a row.  On the other side Falcons HC Reeves is without is most productive wideout (Finnerman) and X-factor QB Vick.  The Falcons secondary is vulnerable and Brad Johnson will pick it apart.
