2001 Archives  - wk6

week ending 10/22/01

"A" plays go 3 for 3 and we have a nice weekend overall hitting 8 out of 12 (with one push) for 67%.  The big surprise was finding out Colorado's starting QB was a late scratch. We would have downgraded the play right then if one of us had been close to home..

Team W/L comments
Stanford (+) @Oregon  W We went against the Ducks last week with an A play and had our worst ATS defeat ever. This week we our on a team that is playing good ball on both sides of the line and should give Oregon all they can handle. We can't pass up getting a touchdown and feel this one warrants A Play status as it should be undecided into the final minutes.  Wait a minute, that sounds eerily familiar to what we said going against the Ducks last week...
@Kent vs Buffalo  W The Buff's are a terrible road team and Kent is playing pretty good ball. They'll lay it to the Buffs in this homecoming game after their humiliating overtime defeat in Buffalo last year.  Kent by 27   A+ Play
@Utah vs Wyoming  W The Utes are a strong squad this year and they should be rested coming off a bye. Their forte is stopping the run but they have athletes in the secondary as well as a formidable rush.   We forecast Utah winning by 24.    A Play

@Mississippi vs MTS  W Middle Tennessee State has been a favorite play of ours for two years but we feel Vegas may have caught up to them. Basic matchups in this contest heavily favor the Rebels: The Rebel's have a potent pass attack vs the Blue Raiders poor pass defense while MTS may posses a potent offense within the Sun Belt conference it will be no match for one of the better defenses in the SEC.  Sure the Rebels have LSU on deck but MTS has a key match-up of their own with Sun Belt conference leader New Mexico State up next.     Mississippi by 24     B+  Play
Colorado (+) @Texas  L Colorado is waaay too good to be giving 10 to Texas.
@Rice vs Nevada

 L

Rice is looking to make people notice them for a bowl bid. They won't hesitate to run it up on the porous Nevada dee.  The revenge factor may come into play here as well, remember that Nevada beat rice as a dog in their final home game last season.
@Boston College vs Pitt  W Boston College has a good offense and is a solid team while Pitt has been struggling defensively, particularly against the pass.
Navy (+) @Rutgers  L Update 10/19/01  Since the return of QB Madden, Navy has been competitive in their last three losses. They will be looking to get their first win against a Rutgers team that has been struggling this season.
@Houston (+) vs Cincinnati  W Update 10/19/01 A Cincinnati squad that was fortunate in rolling a disheveled UAB team is getting way too many points on the road.  The Cougars have the offense to stay with Cincy, we'll take the home points in a last vs first match-up in Conference USA.

Chicago (+) @Cincinnati  W Chicago hasn't just been covering as a dog, they've been winning straight up.
@Detroit (+) vs Tennessee  W The Titans don't have the pass attack to take advantage of Detroit's weak secondary.   We like the home points
Green Bay @Minnesota  L Green Bay has several basic match-up advantages they can exploit against Minnesota: they have the corners to match up with Minnesota's receiver's, the rush to get past the Vikings weak O-line, and a well balanced offense attacking a weak defense.
Under GB/Minnesota  P Gameday Update  The Pack defense matches up very well to the Vikings and 48 is a lot of points for two rivals that know each other well.
