FREE NFL PICKS  &  COLLEGE  FOOTBALL  PICK'S

2001 Archives - PO1

Only one selection last week and it was a good one, Oakland won big as our loan selection and A+ play.

Update 1/9/02:  Well we have had quite a run of losing picks lately. Dare we make an A play selection? Can't help it--we've been looking at this contest for 48 hours now and keep coming up with the same conclusion:  Oakland should dominate New York this Saturday.  We'll update later this week with more thoughts on the wildcard round.

Update 1/12/02:  The remaining wild card games should be hard fought contests. We see Oakland as the loan roller.  We feel Tampa Bay is the better team but they have some powerful trends to overcome. We like the Under in this contest more than the side.  San Francisco and Green Bay are two very good teams that nobody will have an easy time with in the next round. San Fran does have a good running game and that is a tremendous asset on the road. The Pack have shown some vulnerability against the run and are without pro bowl safety Leroy Butler.  It looks like the Niners should be able to move the ball on the Pack, but in the final analysis we'd have to lay our money on Farve playing at Lambeau, We like the Over in this one more than the side.  Baltimore has struggled against good teams this season and Miami qualifies as a good one.  We project that Miami will win this one convincingly in a low scoring affair.

@Oakland vs Jets  W 1/9/02  The quick and dirty: New York gave it everything they had last week in a must win situation for them.  They came out on top on the scoreboard but were outperformed in most statistical categories. It's tough to beat a good team twice--especially on the road.  Oakland proved they could stop the games 2nd leading rusher, Curtis Martin.  Now the Jets are traveling on a short week.  John Gruden's play book is rumored to consist of volumes and consists of hundreds of plays,  his veteran QB, Gannon has mastered it.  Herman Edwards should not be able to glean much from game film as it's likely the Jets will see "chapter two" of Gruden's infamous playbook. On the other hand the Vinny led Jets are running a "light" version of the WCO and the Raiders have probably seen the best the Jets have to give. New York dominated on special teams in their last meeting, returning a blocked punt for a TD, and winning the field position battle on kickoffs. A big factor benefiting Oakland next week will be improved field position; The games strongest kicker, Janikowski is reportedly healthy and will be back in the line-up for the Raiders.  The Jets should not benefit from the short fields they enjoyed last week.  The Jets are 7-1 ATS in road games this year, but this will be a grueling back to back, coast to coast trip on a short week.  Both teams  sputtered down  the stretch and are backsliding going into the  playoffs.  Oakland is 2 and 4 over their last six, that gives us tremendous line value for the home team in this first round playoff game.    A+ Play
